Heritage - Family - Legacy

In the 1870’s, Swiss immigrants, like our 3rd great-grandfather Gotlib Kohler, traded snowy Alpine views for a new life in the Heber Valley. They brought with them centuries of dairy farming and cheese-making heritage that was easily implemented in the lush valley that they soon called home.

When Gotlib’s son Albert began our farm in 1929, there were more than 130 thriving dairy farms in the Heber Valley. This booming business carried small towns like Midway through some of the most difficult periods in history. Our farm has proudly supplied fresh Holstein cow milk and premium beef throughout the state for generations.

The Swiss charm of Midway and the sweeping valley views soon brought more tourists and settlers, which led to many dairy farms slowly selling their land and shutting down operations. Pressure of modern industrialization caused immense pressure on the Kohler family as they strived to preserve their family’s legacy and heritage.

Following in the tenacious spirit of their pioneer forefathers, the Kohler family has never been in the business of giving up. And so, the family banded together, learned the secrets to making world-award winning cheese, and, in 2011, Heber Valley Artisan Cheese was founded.
